Senior Citizens & Retirement 

Act No. 7261 - This Act mandates that an annual $7 million be allocated to the Government Employees Retirement System (GERS) from the Internal Revenue Matching Fund. Through research, Senator Jean Forde learned that this act was never upheld and made an inquiry with the Commissioner of Finance and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget, who were unaware of the mandate. $28 million has been issued to date. 

Bill No. 32-0057This Act amends title 3 Virgin Islands Code, chapter 27, sections 707 and 756, relating to options at retirement. When a retired spouse dies, the retired member shall thereafter receive an annuity, upon notification to the System in an amount equal to what they would have received if they had not designated their spouse as his beneficiary.

Bill No. 32-0038 Act No. 7988 - This Act amends Virgin Islands Code, title 3, chapter 11, section 26b; title 20, section 436 title 30, section 15a; and title 17, section 475, providing for the acceptance of a Real ID as a valid form of identification for various senior citizens discounts.

BR No. 18-0975 - To add new sections, following the California Probate Code, this Bill will provide that gifts by a dependent adult to a non-related caregiver must be independently reviewed. If the amount of the gift is above a certain threshold, this bill will ensure that the gift is not the result of fraud, undue influence, or other improprieties. *co-sponsored*

BR No. 17-0433 - This Bill will create a new Chapter 21 in Title 24 of the Virgin Islands Code enacting the Virgin Islands Secure Choice Retirement Savings Trust Act, thus making retirement more available and affordable for private sector workers in the territory. *co-sponsored*
